We begin our tour around 09:30 hrs. from Hanga Roa. On the way to the Rano Kau volcano, we will visit Ana Kai Tangata or the “cave of the cannibals”, one of the most interesting and accessible caves on the island where you can still see art in the rocks inside.
Then we headed to the archaeological site of Orongo, an ancient and magnificent ceremonial city located on the western summit of the Rano Kau volcano, made up of about 53 elliptical-shaped houses with flagstone walls and a small square entrance that overlooks the sea.
In this place the most important ceremony of the second period of the island was carried out: the election of the Tangata Manu (Bird Man), which was stopped approximately 150 years ago as a result of the arrival of the first Christian missionaries.
Return to Hanga Roa.
